Matt Murphy

Matt Murphy

Matt Murphy – Since childhood, Matt can remember having great difficulty sitting still, leading to friends, family, teachers and strangers pleading with him to stop his chronic outbursts of rhythm.  His refusal to stop began his musical life as jazz drummer at Eagleview Middle School in Colorado Springs. While attending Air Academy High School, Matt sang bass for the infamous Inflatable Misconceptions, famed for procuring uncontrollable screams from the most subdued of high school girls.  He also sang in the mixed voiced ensemble Out of the Blue, getting his first genuine exposure to jazz.  By the end of high school, Matt was fortunate to have performed as a drummer and vocalist for drum lines and formal processionals, in addition to composing an original live score for Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Matt is a jazz performance graduate of the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.  He is privileged to be drumming both vocally and realistically in various Denver area combos, including O Tone Brass Band and TheSaurus.  Matt was also a noted vocal percussionist with Denver area outfit Groove Society, producing a distinct rhythmic foundation for their progressive vocal jazz styling. He now uses his percussive talents as the primary mouth drummer for CONFIDENTIAL, where he also occasionally sings bass.
